Music instruction in des moines for over 8 years

Hi there! My name is J.B. Williams, and it’s been my honor and privilege to teach private music lessons in the Des Moines area for the past 8 years. I’ve been playing music my whole life - my father had a guitar in my hands from the age that I could physically hold one, and had me sitting in on gigs of his from the age of 15. I was very lucky to be raised in a musical household, and fostered among the fantastic network of individuals in the Iowa music scene, and my current aim is to give back to, as well as expand the community through instruction!

Up Tempo Music has been an excellent home for me since 2011, and I have a private lesson space where I teach in Beaverdale located nearby the Up Tempo Music Store. In-home instruction can also be negotiated upon request, if that works better for you and your family.

I provide instruction in all styles of music, and tailor my lesson program to the goals, skill level, and learning style of the individual student. Whether you want to simply learn to strum a few songs by your favorite band, read music with confidence, or understand complicated theory, I would love to help you reach your goals!

Aside from teaching, I’m very lucky to perform regularly with numerous fine musicians around Iowa. I’m a co-founder of two Des Moines-based groups Pale Blue Erf and Johnny Novacaine, and perform with both groups around Iowa on a regular basis. In addition, I play with R&B group The Feel Right, classic rock group Fancy Pants, perform with various wedding bands, and play solo acoustic shows all over town! It’s good to be busy in the music world.
